Obituary: Evelyn M. Gallup

“Evelyn M. Gallup Town of Wright – Evelyn M. Gallup 87, of Larry Hill Road, Town of Wright, NY, passed away Friday, September 6th at her home under the loving care of family and hospice.

Evelyn was born July 10, 1937 in Schenectady, NY, a daughter of Nelson and Irene (Rogalski) Pangburn. She graduated from Draper High School, class of 1955 and later married George Gallup on June 30, 1956. She owned and operated Evelyn’s Posy Place in Duanesburg and Schoharie and also worked as a rural mail carrier for Duanesburg and Delanson for 20 years. Evelyn volunteered at the Altamont Fair, the Gallupville House, Delanson Meal Site and the Food Pantry and was fortunate to march in the Macy’s Day Parade in 1954 as a majorette. She assisted with school plays at Schoharie Central School and held memberships at Schoharie Reformed Church, Gallupville Fire Department Auxiliary, Schoharie Colonial Heritage Association, the Gallupville Grange, the Rural Letter Carriers Association, Duanesburg Seniors and Hudson, Mohawk Chapter-Pioneer Gas Engine Association (Gas-Up). She enjoyed gardening, birds, her flowers and meeting with classmates for lunch every month.

Survivors include: her children; Dean C. (Laurie) Gallup of Fredericksburg, VA, Douglas N. (Debbie) Gallup of Schoharie and Charles H. (Lori) Gallup of Schoharie, her son-in-law, Scott McDermott of Schoharie, her 8 grandchildren; Amber, Dawn, Rachel, Anna, Rebecca, Gregory, Terha, and Matt, 14 great-grandchildren; Adam, Pheobe, Sadie, Leo, Heidi, Avalon, Italia, Joseph, Breonna, Gabriella, Jaxson, Abbagail, Willow and Olivia, 1 great-great grandchild, Kaiden, her sister; Gladys Gardner of New Port Richey, FL and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George on November 11, 2015 and her daughter; Diane McDermott on February 27, 2022.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street Schoharie where the Gallupville Fire Department and Auxiliary will hold a service at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11th at the funeral home with interment in the Gallupville Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Evelyn to: the Gallupville Fire Department, PO Box 15, Gallupville, NY 12073 OR Helios Care 297 River St. Service Rd., Oneonta, NY 13820.
