“Planning Commissioner Ray Gillen has for nearly two decades played a pivotal role in a long list of economic development projects big and small across Schenectady County.
For most of that time, Gillen, better known as the chairman of the Metroplex Development Authority, has also either been at the top or close to the top of the county’s top earners list.
The $227,717 he grossed in 2023 again placed him No. 1 on that register.
County Attorney Chris Gardner said Monday that Gillen’s record of achievement is undeniable.
“If you look at Schenectady, where we were in January 2004 and where we are today, I think the county’s made great progress by having Ray Gillen as our director of economic development and planning,” Gardner said.
The timeline he mentioned coincides with when county Democrats took power in the legislature and brought Gillen on board at $130,000 a year, making him the highest-paid county employee back then.”
