“After months of delays at the city Planning Board level, the Common Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to postpone action on one of the steps needed for a controversial project to build a solar farm on the site of the former Pine Brook Golf Course.
The council conducted a public hearing on a zoning change request from John Antonucci, an owner of 280 S. Main St., the site of the former golf course.
Antonucci, who also owns Antonucci Foods, asked the council to allow parcels on the property to be rezoned from residential to commercial, which would enable solar farm developer Eden Renewables to build a 32-acre solar farm capable of supplying energy to an estimated 1,250 homes. Developers have said the $10 million project also would transform a parcel by adding bee hives, wildflowers, and a community garden.
Gillian Black, the project manager for Eden Renewables, gave a presentation to the council and answered questions during the public hearing.
Second Ward Councilman Arthur Simonds said he believes the solar farm will create some noise, and he asked Black about what kinds of noises those might be.”
