“Katherine “Kay” Dowling Delanson – Katherine “Kay” Dowling passed away on September 27, 2024 after suffering complications from a fall at home. Kay was born in Swanzy, New Hampshire in March 1930 to James and Katherine Dunn. She graduated from the Delanson Union Free School and returned to Delanson in 1965 with her young family. Upon retirement as a secretary from General Electric Company, Kay moved to Parrish, FL in 1989. While in Florida, Kay was employed as a secretary by the Parrish United Methodist Church. She also volunteered her time to special causes before her final homecoming to Delanson in 2008. Throughout retirement Kay enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading, jigsaw puzzles and keeping up with longtime friends the old-fashioned way, sending and receiving cards and letters in the mail.
Kay was predeceased by her brothers James Dunn, Jr. and Richard Dunn, her beloved sister Donna Boss, and her former husband John Dowling, Sr. She is survived by her sons John Dowling, Jr. (Janine) of Delanson and Peter Dowling (Carolyn) of Niverville, NY. Kay also leaves behind her niece Diane Potter (Michael DeVre) of Amsterdam, with whom she shared a special bond, her nephew Richard O’Brien of Esperance, great-nephew Christopher Coon, and many extended family members. The family would like to thank dedicated neighbors and friends, specifically Dawn and Ken, Carol D., Erica, Doris, June, and Carol H. for their time and attention to Kay these last few years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at White Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main Street, Delanson, N.Y. A Service will be held at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place immediately following at Grove Cemetery, Quaker Street, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kay’s name to the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps (DVAC), 130 Cole Road, Delanson, NY, 12053 or to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Glenville, NY, 12302.”
