“A year after adopting legislation regulating battery energy storage systems, Duanesburg lawmakers are seeking to put a temporary pause on the renewable energy facilities for at least the next six months.
The proposed moratorium on utility scale battery energy storage systems over 600 kilowatts comes just weeks after a working group made up of various state agencies handed down a series of draft recommendations on how to further regulate the systems, which store excess energy collected by solar arrays and other green energy systems.
Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed the working group last year following a series of fires at battery storage systems across the state, which have led to growing concerns about the safety of the systems for municipalities throughout the region, including several in Schenectady County.”
