Obituary: Patricia L. Kuon

“Patricia L. Kuon, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 26, 2023. Born November 21, 1939, in Delanson, NY. Patricia was predeceased by her parents Bernard and Arrietta (Coons) Smith, her sister Margaret, and her childhood sweetheart and husband Charles (“Chuck”) Gustave Kuon.

Patricia graduated from Duanesburg High School, Class of 1958. She married Chuck Kuon, her childhood sweetheart and life partner, on September 12, 1959. Family was important to them both and together they raised three loving children. They were married for 42 wonderful years.

She leaves behind her beloved children and grandchildren, Debra (Clifford) Merchant and their children Andrew (Nicole), Melissa, and their grandchildren; her son Charles (Terri) and their daughter Madeline; her son Russell (Kathy) and their daughters Kelsey and Myah.

She also leaves behind her sister Della Mae Smith Moldenhauer Blanchard, and her Aunt Edna Mae Coons and many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as innumerable treasured friends.

Patricia was an exceptionally friendly, outgoing, and caring person. Before retiring in 2018, Patricia was a beloved assistant teacher at Schenectady Headstart for 30 years. Additionally, she spent her life volunteering with a variety of organizations including Girls Scouts, Carman Little League, Rotterdam Babe Ruth, St. Gabriel’s CYO, and as a deacon at Lynnwood Reformed Church. Everyone she met became a friend.

Patricia had a zest for life and was always ready for an adventure. She loved to travel with her children and friends. Some of her favorite places include Alaska and RI, England/Ireland, York Maine, and Myrtle Beach. She also loved dinner parties and hiking with her friends.

Calling hours will be held Monday March 13th from 11 to 1 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.

A 1 p.m. funeral service will immediately follow. Burial will be in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam.

The family is grateful to the staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for their care and assistance over the past 8 months.

In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Patty’s commitment to education with a donation to The Charles and Patricia Kuon Memorial Scholarship, Duanesburg Central School District, Duanesburg, NY.”
