“A former Duanesburg highway superintendent will have to wait for his day in court on a drunken driving charge, as the judge in the case recused herself on Wednesday.
Steven Perog, 52, was arrested Saturday and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, resisting arrest and various vehicle and traffic offenses following a crash that happened Friday on Route 30 in Duanesburg. Town Court Judge Deanna Siegel recused herself from the case during the initial hearing because she knows Perog.
The case will be reassigned to a different municipality in the county.
Wearing a white shirt and brown-checkered tie, Perog didn’t speak much at the hearing. He declined to comment to The Gazette.
Perog’s tenure as highway superintendent was marked by controversy. Last weekend’s arrest is not the first time he has had run-ins with the law since leaving the job.”
