“A jury has awarded a Delanson woman $1.52 million, finding her doctor guilty of malpractice when he failed to repair a bowel injury caused while he performed a hysterectomy.
The bowel injury required 51-year-old Denise Frith to have a colostomy and wear a bag to collect her waste for seven months, then to undergo additional abdominal surgeries.
The hysterectomy, performed by Dr. Stephen B. Graham of Bassett Health Care Network in Cooperstown, took place in April 2011. After a rare trial for medical malpractice, a six-member jury unanimously found Wednesday that Graham’s failure to recognize and fix the bowel injury caused Frith pain and suffering as well as lost wages.”
