“The two candidates vying for Duanesburg supervisor, seem to have adopted a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” campaign mentality in this rural community of 6,122 people.
Democrat Jean Frisbee and her GOP opponent Roger Tidball agree that a project under way to construct a sewer system in Duanesburg and the nearly $2 million in surplus are major issues.
“No matter what the number, I would rather keep it in a positive amount,” said Tidball, a 41-year-old GOP political newcomer and married father of three. “It’s been a great town to raise children, live, and retire, and I want to keep it that way.”
Last year, a state comptroller’s office audit found Duanesburg was keeping “excessive” amounts of surplus instead of using it to reduce taxes.
Frisbee, 74, who has served two 4-year-terms on the Town Board, said she wants to “maintain our financial situation, which is good.” She touted her bipartisan record of working across party lines with Rene Merrihew, a popular Republican who is not seeking re-election after five terms.”
“I felt like I should step up,” said Frisbee, a retired state accountant who volunteers as a driver for the local ambulance company and treasurer with state Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk’s office.” I like to be busy and know I can do the job.”
Frisbee, who is married with three adult children and seven grandchildren, described her leadership style as laid back and said the sewer project will make the area more business-friendly.
Tidball, a warehouse worker at Target’s distribution center, agreed with that assessment.
“It will increase property value and attract new homeowners to the area,” he said.
Tidball describes himself as a “team player” who would solicit the input of Town Board members and other officials before making decisions.
