“Three people were seriously injured late Tuesday in a two-car accident at Chadwick Road and Schoharie Turnpike, authorities said.
Rescue crews were first dispatched to a location on Interstate 88, but arrived at the scene to find no accident. Eight minutes after the initial report at 10 p.m., a second caller gave the correct location, Chadwick and Schoharie.
“There was an eight-minute delay because of the incorrect location,” said Dave Briggs, fire dispatcher for Schenectady County. He said Quaker Street firefighters were then sent to the scene where they found two cars had collided and at least two people had been thrown from the vehicles.
“From what the crews told us, there were three people in critical condition with head and chest injuries,” Briggs said. They were taken to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady where they were being treated in the emergency room early today.
Assistant Chief Dan Montross from the Quaker Street Fire Department said two of the injured were men riding in one of the cars. The other car contained a husband, wife and three children, all from Quaker Street. He said the wife was injured while the husband and children were not.
Montross said the crash was a broadside accident, but could not say which car struck the other.
State Police from the Duanesburg station were called to investigate, but were not available to comment on the crash.
Also called to the scene were Duanesburg and Esperance volunteer ambulance crews, an advanced life support ambulance from Mohawk Ambulance in Schenectady and Duanesburg firefighters.”
