“Stephen John Mormando Delanson – Stephen John Mormando, 44, of Delanson, NY, passed away on April 27, 2024, at his residence with his loving wife by his side after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on July 9, 1979, in Niskayuna, NY.
Stephen was the beloved husband to Isabelle Mormando and a devoted father to his children, Jack Arthur, Fletcher Stephen, and Isabelle Emily. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Barbara Ann Mormando, his siblings Paula Mormando, Suzanne Callahan (David), Barbara Weiss (Eric), sister-in-law Beth Mormando, Nicholas Mormando Jr. (Pamela), James Mormando (Rebecca), Mathew Mormando (Ticil), Mark Mormando. He will also be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Katharine Snyder (Dave), brother-in-law Jerome Edmunds Jr. (Kimberly), sister-in-law Rachel Spickerman along with his 19 nieces and nephews.
Stephen was predeceased by his father Nicholas John Mormando Sr., brother Joseph John Mormando and his nephew Nicholas John Mormando III.
Stephen had a successful career with General Electric for 20 years. In his position as GE HealthCare Field Engineer III, Stephen was an integral part of the GE HealthCare Imaging Service team. “”. He was willing to help anyone who needed it and had a trusted relationship with his peers and customers, all of his customers recognized his commitment to their needs and the quality of his work. Stephen received many awards for his work at GE HealthCare including the Best of the Best Award (twice) and a Three Heartbeat Award. He graduated from Duanesburg High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications from SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica Rome. Steve worked for Gibby’s diner during high school and college and this built his strong work ethic.
Stephen was known for his love of everything outdoors: hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, and trapping lobster. He loved camping with friends and making loaded Bloody Marys for all his camping friends was his tradition. He lived by the motto, “work hard to play hard,” and that he did. Stephen was selfless, his generous and helpful nature endeared him to all who knew him. He was always up for an adventure like going for rides on his motorcycle with good friends, off roading with his kids and traveling to new places. He was an avid and spontaneous chef, who could cook anything and was insistent on feeding anyone who visited. Stephen’s mispronunciations, bad impersonations, and at times twisted sense of humor were defining parts of him that entertained all. Stephen was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Stephen found solace and community at Saint Michael’s Chapel and Our Lady of Fatima Church, where he worshipped with his family.
Stephen Mormando will be remembered for his MacGyver like problem-solving skills, unparalleled generosity, unwavering work ethic, endless energy, incredible sense of humor and devotion to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024 at St. Michael’s Chapel 507 Route 9W Glenmont at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Stephen’s family on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the White-VanBuren Funeral Home 1779 Main St. Delanson, NY. Interment will be in Grove cemetery, Delanson.
