“Schenectady County is the fifth county statewide to be certified silver in the state’s Climate Smart Communities program.
In an event at Karen B. Johnson Central Library Thursday morning, Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) interim Commissioner Sean Mahar announced that the county and the town of New Lebanon in Columbia County have joined 11 municipalities across the state as silver certified communities, with each reaching state benchmarks to help mitigate and adapt to climate change.
The county received points in the program for adopting LED street lights, purchasing electric vehicles for the county fleet and installing electric vehicle charging stations for the public.
