“Kenneth Almy spent over 40 years as a first responder before retiring in 2022 as chief of the Scotia Fire Department. Now, he’s poised to add to his decades of service as the new fire coordinator of Schenectady County.
The county Legislature’s Firefighting and EMS Committee advanced a resolution Monday appointing Almy to the position effective Feb. 14. Almy has served as the county’s deputy fire coordinator since retiring from the Scotia department in March 2022.
“He’s been instrumental in the office. He came in, hit the ground running and has continued running,” said Mark LaViolette, the county’s director of emergency management. “I can’t put enough support behind him.
Almy will replace Scott Pike, who is set to retire after a more than two-decade career in emergency management, including five years as fire coordinator — a position tasked with maintaining and administering a number of key services, including the county’s fire radio system, mutual aid and hazardous and mass casualty response.”
