“Alexander Shirokey, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday December 7, 2023. He was born and raised in Hawk Run, Pennsylvania. He joined the Army as early as he could, serving during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he first lived in Schenectady, then Rotterdam before settling in Duanesburg. He was a tester and manager for large motors and generators for GE and retired after 40 years. Alexander was a member of the American Legion in Pennsylvania, a member of the Horseshoe Club, and was a champion boxer of Panama and then went pro in Albany. He loved hunting and going to the beach.
He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Mary Shiroka, his wife, Phyllis Christine Johnson, and his siblings Michael Shirokey, Nick Shirokey, Walter Sherokey, John Sheroka, Joseph Shiroke, Martha Allgood, Velma Glenn, Mary Kate Kiewieckz, Ellen K. Kirtz, Helen Davis Anna, Tom Kiewicz, Irene Chervenak, and Millie Kasubick.
Alexander is survived by his daughters, Deborah Fleeger Morash (Lenny) and Lori Atkinson; grandchildren, Skylar Lynn Atkinson, Robert J.P. Milhomme, Jr., and Sunni Anne Fleeger; great grandchild, Aubrie Lynn Hope Milhomme; sister, Theresa Shirokey; and many nieces and nephews.
Alexander has been privately cremated. Memorial calling hours will take place on Friday, December 15 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the White Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.
