“On his last day of high school, Duanesburg High School salutatorian Andrew Longo spent third period packing up his passion project. He carried lights, props and coffee cups to his car. It was time to say goodbye to the school news program, which he helped to build from the ground up.
As an underclassman, Longo dreamed of running the school newscast, which was only a brief stream of announcements at the time. He wanted to make the broadcast longer and more detailed, with more students involved and higher production value. For that to happen, the program needed to become a class.
“I went down to the guidance counselor at the end of last year, and I just begged: ‘Take me out of math, take me out of science, just put me in this,’” he said.”
