“James A. Gaylord, 78, passed away on Thursday, December 9th. He did not want to spend another Christmas without Anna the queen of Christmas. He was born in Hudson, NY to the late Alden W. Gaylord and Virginia M. Barnes Gaylord. He grew up in West Sand Lake and there he met and married Anna Hoffay Gaylord. They were happily married for 46 years until her death in 2010.
James worked at the Albany Felt Company before pursuing his ultimate dream to be a dairy farmer. In 1965, he purchased Deerlick Farms. It was 189 acres and he loved every inch of it. He worked too hard for 53 years to improve the land and buildings until his body wouldn’t let him do it anymore and he finally had to stop in 2018. He was a Quaker Street Fire Department Commissioner for many years. He cherished the time he spent with family, friends, and most of all his animals.
He is survived by his son Rich (Beth) Gaylord, his daughter Jennifer (James) Daly, his grandchildren; Jared Daly, Ian Daly, and Gillian Gaylord, as well as many loving relatives and close friends.
He is predeceased by his parents Alden and Virginia, his wife Anna, and his brother Gordon.
The family wishes to thank Kelly for her care and compassion when taking care of James over the last 3 years. They would also like to thank his wonderful neighbors that helped him out whenever he called, usually only getting a cold beer in return, especially Joe, Bob, Bill and the Wilbers.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at White-Van Buren Funeral Home, 1779 Main St. Delanson, NY 12053. A funeral service will be held privately by the family. James will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in West Sand Lake.
Memorial contributions may be made in James’ name to the Humane Society of the United States, 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450 Washington, DC 20037.
