Council accused of having unclear strategy for solar farms planning

November 26, 2020 by l

“The charity which campaigns to protect Wiltshire’s countryside is making an emotional plea to the Council’s planners and decision-makers, urging them to consider the ‘bigger picture’ when making development choices that will have an irreversible impact on Wiltshire’s landscape and quality of life for generations to come.

CPRE Wiltshire Chair Anne Henshaw said: “We owe it to our children and grandchildren not to squander the countryside around us.

“Solar farm applications are dealt with on an ad hoc basis and there is no clear approach to spatial distribution of Wiltshire’s target renewable energy capacity.

“There is an accumulation impact on landscape character, visual amenity, and especially the effect of local concentration of multiple arrays.

“Now, in addition, these sites are adding battery storage facilities, which means these are increasingly industrial use sites.”
