Obituary: Fred J. Probst

“Fred J. Probst, 93, passed away on March 4, 2016, at O’Connor Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1923, the son of Frederick and Marie (Waldbillig) Probst.

He married Mary Ann Norton on Sept. 7, 2001.

Fred was a graduate of Cathedral Academy Class of 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II and upon his honorable discharge as Sargent, he attended Veterans Vocational School in Troy.

He worked for General Electric for 35 years. Fred began his career in the general engineering lab as a senior design draftsman and later went to Knolls Atomic Power Lab.

He served as a volunteer firemen with the Quaker Street Fire Department.

In his younger years he enjoyed camping with his family at Hermit Island in Maine. A lover of history he was a member of “Black Powder Club” and participated in many re-enactments of the Revolutionary War.

He enjoyed gardening, wood working, as well as buying and selling antiques and collectibles. Fred truly enjoyed planning and taking trips with his wife across our country.

He will be remembered with love by his wife and best friend, Mary Ann; daughters, Sherrylyn (Bill) Keeshan and Diane (Russ) Green; grandchildren, Billy (Michelle) Keeshan; as well as Ryan and Brendan Glennon. He is also survived by his precious great- grandchildren, Alvin and Vivian Keeshan.

Respecting Fred’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Memorial contributions for those who wish to do so may be made to the Stamford Emergency Squad, O’Connor Hospital, 460 Andes Road, Delhi, NY, or Catskill Area Hospice, 116 Main St., Delhi, NY 13753.”
