“When the wind ripped through Duanesburg Thursday, it stole the wall off of the Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps garage.
“We’re glad that everyone is alive and well,” said Captain Peter Brodie.
There is so much damage to the building that they can’t use it right now. Captain Brodie said two trucks were damaged as well, but the volunteers are still answering calls.”Right now it’s just a matter of pulling dedicated people together to respond,” he said.
Captain Brodie said he is very grateful for the other departments that have dropped everything to come help.
State Police and Fire Crews were called to I-88 for hours Thursday afternoon when the wind blew two tractor trailers over on their side. We’re told the drivers will be ok and had minor injuries.Thursday night neighbors responded to help neighbors clean up. At the same time, National Grid worked to restore power and the Red Cross stopped to see what people need. Carina Possumato said she was driving during the storm and made it to safety just in time.
“I parked the car, got in and the wind in the house completely bashed in,” she said.It will take time to pick up from the devastation. But those CBS6 spoke with were grateful for one another’s safety.
“We will continue to operate, we are survivors,” said Captain Brodie.
The Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps will be collecting coins on the corner of Routes 7 and 20 Friday from 2-6pm. It’s something they often do on Fridays, but those donations are really needed now.”
