“Fire officials are looking into the cause of an early morning blaze that destroyed a home Thursday on State Highway 30.
The fire broke out about 2:45 a.m. Thursday at the home of Jeff and Renee Armao. The couple and their four children were able to get out safely, however, after one of the children woke up and alerted other family members, said Quaker Street Fire Company Chief Bob Powell.
Powell said the two-story wood frame house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Fire companies from Duanesburg, Delanson, Esperance, Middleburgh, Central Bridge and Schoharie were among those on the scene. More than 100 firefighters were called in to battle the blaze, Powell said.
Six firefighters suffered smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries were reported.
The fire is believed to have started in the front part of the house. Television reports said the house had been in the family for four generations.
